Thanks everyone on the picture compliments.
gabranth17, i live in north carolina. He comes out of his hole half way, smacks the trap i set and scurries back in his hole. He is getting braver as time goes by.
Fat tony, I am hoping that some of the corals make it. I was not here at the time of the rock delivery (Overnight air freighted) and my dad took his sweet time putting it in the tank.
From the "live rock" that ive seen locally, it looks nothing like the rock I got. Most of the rock in the LFS is bare almost, dead looking.

Yea you have lots of life on your LR thats for sure. You may not catch him with that trap if he sees what it is and is hitting it.. Youd be surprised on how smart the things are, mine at this very moment is making a racket smashing up rocks, hes up waaaaaaaay past his bed time At 10 he usually takes shells and rocks and clogs up the holes to where he sleeps, hes very smart

i live in Florida .... so much for that idea unless u wanna ship it. reeftanker is right, if u go on youtube and look for "mantis shrimp" you'll come across a bunch of different mantis u'll be surprised how smart these things are. ur best bet is to take the rock out before he moves to another rock. the carbonated water shouldnt kill anything

Yea get that rock out believe me its worth the hassle. The carbonated water will kill things if you leave it in the rock for too long so get him out with it (he should shoot right out if you pour it down his hole) then rinse off the rock in fresh saltwater

Just a word of caution. Be very careful when handling that rock, and don't try to pick up the shrimp with your hands. It doesn't feel good when they hit you. Feels kinda like smashing your finger with a hammer.
I agree with the others. The easiest way to get it out will be to remove the rock. I always just used worm tap water to get them out of their holes though.

When you get him out try to take him to LFS, they may take him.

Well, I had to take the rock out of the tank, he didn't want to come out. Tried flushing him out with water but that didn't work either. Pulled him out slowly with tweezers. Now I just need to find a place to put him since the lfs didn't want him

Congrats on getting the mantis out. You may also want to check the algae in the 5th picture. Looks like there is some bubble algae and that could become a real nuisance.
