new to reef but not salt white algea on live rock


Hello im new here and just want to ask a couple of questions about reef. I have had my 75 gallon set up for about a week now and have noticed that there is a couple peices of live rock that have white algea on it i have heard this it the start to coralline algea is this true or do i have someting else going on. The ammonia also jumped to .4 ppm when i put the live rock in.??? everything else is ok calcium at 390 ph at 8.2 temp at 80 gravity at 1.025 but phosphates is off the scale i used tap water which i didnt find out was bad untill too late. i am planning to do all water changes with distilled water from now on. Please help if you can

75 gal bow 80 lbs of live rock 2 65w coral life aqua light compact 1 40 w coral life triac bulb. wet dry sump pond master 954 gph pro clear aquatic systems protein skimmer. nothing in tank accept live rock for now.

That white, is coraline dieing off. Scrubb it down and put it back into the tank. It'll be a while till it turns color again.

Try and do a 100% water change with ro/di to get that out of there. You're gonna to need more salt.

Welcome to TRT! You will find very helpful folks here. Try to get yourself a RO filter for your water. It will save you time and money in the long run. Good luck with your new project and how about posting some pic's of your tank.

this ro filter does it hook up to the sink or what i do not know how it works or is distilled water better

that stinks why is that dying off is that my ammonia problem

The white die off is not much to worry about. The coraline has gone through some trauma. Now you have it in an enviornment that is at best, very different from from what it is used to. It will return in time as the tank stabilizes and may even be a different color. I have patches on my LR also. I would address the water situation first, in time the color will come back!
