New tank overflow question

Ok, so i was going to get a non-drilled tank and do the drilling myself but due to a number of things I ended up getting a Perfecto RR tank.
Now this tank has a corner overflow box with two 1" holes drilled in the bottom, one for drain to sump and one for return to tank.
Now, because I had made all these plans for the tank I was going to drill myself I'm a bit put out that I'm effectively left with one drain.
Sooooo here's what I'm thinking.....
I'm going to use the one hole as a supply to the sump and then plumb the return over the back of the tank. The second hole I'm going to use as a suction for a closed loop and then plump the returns of that over the top.
The only problem I can see would be the slotsa in the overflow box not having the surface area to aloww the water to return to the holes without flooding over the top of the box. Tha't not a big problem but I can see much scooping of aquatic pals out of there! This problem should be solved by a bit of dremmel work I think.
Am I missing something, or do you all think this sounds like a reasonable plan.
Oh yeah, both pumps will be Mag7

Thanks

Steve

Get this question a lot. You answered you're own question. The overflow won't handle the flow you need for your CLS.

BUT, I have an alteration to your plan that will fix everything. REALLY like you're idea, but I'd make ONE change.

Use the other hole for hte input to your CLS, but add an elbow or flex-tube to extend that hole to a hold you'd drill INTO the overflow.

Tried to draw a quick diagram explaining what I mean.

But the point is, USE your overflow to HIDE the plubming, but have the actual INTAKE just outside the overflow.

This would work this way, removing all restraints of the Overflow's flow capability, but still give you the lack of plubming visible.

But actually doing this might be tough (hard to move around in that overflow)

Thats a thought, if it can be done it would . Steve can you post a pic of the overflow and how its setup in the tank? If it has a curved wall thats going to make it a bit tougher to do this way

Skeeties should work fine. instead of using a bulkhead, try using a Uni-seal. these are much more flexible in their placement. they can be put on curved surfaces. when going this route a hole saw must be used. spade bits cause an oval hole and the Uni-seal will not seal properly.

Very cool idea Skeety! Never thought of that, thanks mate

As for the overflow, yes it's curved and sits in one corner of the tank (at work so no pic at the moment).

I can see sealing the hole being a bit tough but as it's internal to the tank a small leak wouldn't be the end of the world I don't think.

Geoff, does home despot carry the uni-seals?
Thanks guys

Steve
