New Tank LR Die-off....Needing Help

Hey Folks,

I've recently placed ~40# of LR that was curing in a friend's tank for about 2 weeks into my new 75gal system I set up at my office. He scrubbed the rock 2 or 3 x's but he traveled with it in his car for about 3 hrs before it made it into my tank (cold Colorado day and not in water). There's some nice (yet small) SPS and fleshy corals on the rock, but just recently, I started noticing quite a bit of white slime covering much of the rock. In addition, the smell started getting quite bad and the ammonia measured around 5. I did a 15gal water change and got the ammonia down to ~2.5.

SO, what do I need to do now. My friend is conveniently out of town and I don't know if it's time to let things just sit or if I should add my clean-up crew, etc. Please advise.

ALso, should I keep the lights off or let them run normal cycles?

If ypou have a skimmer, turn it up and get it producing wet skimmate (foam). Replace the wet skimmate that is removed with fresh ASW on a 1:1 ratio. I would also suggest doing a few more water changs, if you want to try and keep the corals (it would be better for them if the ammonia levels can be dropped even lower). Other than that, let your system cycle.

The skimmer has been on and has been fractioning some real nasty smelling liquid which I've been dumping daily. I'll try to do another 15gal change today.

DO I need to do something with the white slime that's developing on parts of the rock? Should I try to remove it somehow or just leave it?
