new tank ideas

I am getting bored with the community FW tank I have. I am thinking of converting it to salt. There aren't any fish that I am really attached to in there. Mainly tetras and such. I got some Silver Dollars and they devoured my plants. It is a 45 gal corner tank. So. it is nice and tall/deep.

Any ideas of what I could do with it? I already have a tank that I am building up as a reef... so, I was either thinking FO or FOW some LR. I was thinking about maybe a Lionfish? Scorpion? Maybe a dedicated small predator tank? Any recommendations for some interesting species? Is that too small for a trigger? Any puffers that would work in there? valentini?

Give me some suggestions.

Thanks!

gordon

Talking

valentini puffer would be good. they don't need big tanks.
Could be a cool sea horse setup. they like tall tanks due to the way they swim.
just a suggestion

Are you the tanks first owner? , just asking so you make sure there wasn't any chemicals used that will mess up your plans when start using it for SW

as far as fish go, a trigger, fully grown, probally would not work in that tank....but if you want aggressive there are

lions
puffers
hawkfish
& some groupers

The challenge of a seahorse tank sounds interesting. I never would have thought of that, but after reading, it sounds a little daunting. (unless someone else has some input otherwise).

Any eels in a tank that size? What could I mix with a Lion? Any of you guys have similar tanks? What you have in there? What would you put in a tank like this?

What about using it as a quarantine/ hospital tank. It will always have corals and fish in it......lol
If you have a sick fish or coral you can at least transfer them if you need to.

I have a 10 gal for that

I didn't start using it early enough, though

What fish will have more personality... a valentini (or other small puffer) or a Lion?

Thumbs up

Some ideas:

1. "Low" light mushroom tank
2. Octopus tank (the blue ringed octopus is one of the deadliest creatures on earth ) (see James Bond: Octopussy)
3. I like the seahorse idea
4. Nudibranch tank
5. Algae tank (what fun!)
6. Maine Lobster tank (will need a chiller) (see your local supermarket)
7. Cuttlefish tank (see your local aquarium)
8. Another reef tank???

Thanks, I like the seahorse idea, too. I guess I was looking more for what to put in there. Like "put a lion, a snowflake eel, and a small puffer... that would be cool."

I have no idea what is compatible with what in a tank like that. I figured that some people here would either have a tank like that or would have some suggestions.
