I don't think I posted status on the tank....
From What I am reading H. Reidi ( the type of horses we would like to keep) come from a lagoonal settting. Flow needs to be lower so they can hunt for pods, and not get knocked around since they seem to hitch most of the day. They are also very social animals and it sounds like you can keep too few in a tank as well as too many... numbers work to help keep the tank from fouling during feedings. I have been reading a lot in our archives and seahorse.org
I have a lot more to learn before I even think about livestock, but the deal on the tank seemed to good to pass up.

yup
sealed the deal yesterday
The canopy and stand were not lookin so hot, so I told him I just wanted the set up and not the stand/canopy. so he knocked 100 bucks off. So I got it for 100.00 I am pretty happy about that.
Tank is still running and everything looked good and well taken care of. Some salt creep and a few scratches in the tank, but nothing was leaking, no green silicone, things looked well put together from my novice eye.
And the best part ( for me) is he won't have it emptied until end of Jan so I can keep putting pennies in the reef jar and might not have to spend my christmas money YEAH! love it when that happens

Sweet! So are you going to build your own stand and canopy?

 yup!
Good thing the hubby, Ben, is good with wood, he has build me several things for the house.
I also need to think about how to spread out the flow. It's these issues in the hobby that get me excited, but I always feel like the brain is on overload. The return is on the left side of the tank and the overflow is the top upper right half of the tank - like a rectangle.
I think that I want to be able to split the flow to both sides of the tank, or at least be able to keep stuff up off the bottom with out adding pwerhead to the tank. SOO between this tank and the 55 I am sure I will have endless plumbing questions.

If you are doing seahorses they don't like flow right?
One of the slickest seahorse tank I ever saw was a macro tank (Planted SW tank) and a 4 inch or so sandbed. Since they knew they had to have low flow for the horses they gave up on keeping detritus in suspention, and just let it settle. The macro used those nutreants and acted as great export for what was falling into the sanbed. The macro also looked cool, lots of reds and greens, different shapes and shades, and the horses liked to hang on it.
Slick look accually.

BTW
I don't know too many details about it because I don't know anything really about horses, never tried to keep them, I just read the thread on the tank like a year ago.

It sounds really pretty! I didn't do very much ressearch into sandbeds when I set up my 55 so I am trying to learn some of that now. I get that a 4-6 in sand bed helps suck up the uglies, 1-3 in pretty but doesn't really do anything. and barebottom is easy to clean because you can see what settles but other than that I am clueless.
Also concerned about loosing height in the tank, apperently they like to swim up not sideways :0)
from what I am reading a horse tank should have 3-5times flow so we are looking at about 145 gph give or take. Most info says thta as long as there are areas of low flow in the tank for the horses to rest some flow is ok... give them a choice....

thats cool you got the setup... But i still think i would have asked the owner if the setup ever had copper dosed in it. Even if the silly cone isnt green doesnt mean there was never copper in the system. I say this because i have a LFS nearby that doses copper in there system and there silly cone seams are not green. I only know this because when i first got in the hobby and want to buy some fish, that is what i asked the guy was if there was copper being used, he said yes, it is to cut down on the diseases on the fish when they first come in. And i have never been back to that LFS since.

db Thanks for the heads up, I did ask last night and he said no copper had been used... it is a coral, sps tank right now so somehow I don't think he would have dosed copper in a tank with acros and monti's in it. Too much money in his tank to do that.

Also if it didn't color the silicone I wouldn't worry about it because it didn't leach into anything in the tank. I would worry about live rock that has seen copper though.

I might add that if there are SPS alive and growing in that tank the rock is clearly fine.

I do this all the time actually. I used to be a Semi Mechanic, and also took second in Washington state in the AAA Auto skills competition.
I have a desk job now, but working on Semi's was fun for a while.
