still not sure what i want to do about paintor stain, thinkin about a cherry stain with painted moldings, or just painting the whole thing. lights are alot brighter! everything seems to like it. i plan on haveing the tank sitting on it by the end of the weekend

Very nice!!! I am a big fan of naturally finished (Not painted) cabnets, but in the end it's all your preference.

thanks whiskey, kelli, and brent!! been working on it since the thanksgiving weekend, getting anxious to be done with it. my new stand will have one door in the front, and a door in the back on either side with an open back. will hopefully give me plenty of room to get in there for maintenance. and i plan on haveing my power strips mounted on the inside of the rear doors, so i can easily get to my timers. probably going to put a linoleum floor in the stand on the bottom and about 4 inches up around the bottom sides and silicone it in to trap any water that spills. its also about 8 inches taller than my old stand, so an upgrade skimmer may be coming shortly too!!!

You did a great job, a six sided stand has got to be a lot harder to build than a four sided one.

Definitely a great job with all the angles!!
Question about the canopy fan... does it have openings around the sides for air to get pulled through? If not you might want to space the fan out away from the wood so it can pull air in from behind it. Probably be more effective that way. If you've already done this then ignore me.
Great job!

yea it was a bit of a project with the angles. a good table saw and a compound miter saw is what made it possible. also the fact that the tank itself isnt a perfect hexagon, so i had to comp for that. i thought about the fan not getting enough air, there is a 1/4" gap all the way around between the tank and canopy, so it does get some air. doesnt seem to get too hot in there, and no change to my water temp. btw the stand is constructed out of 3/4" mdf, and the canopy out of 1/2". between the screws, braceing, and liquid nails, its really sturdy! me and 3 of my friends all stood on it and tryed to shake it and it didnt budge!!!
