New Setup Questions...

My new 75gal Corner tank is up and running. Its ann AGA with built in overflow with a 10gal sump down below.

1) The Overflow box never gets totally full so its EXTREMELY noisy. The fact that the water flowing from the tanks main body of water into/over the overflow and then down the overflow makes the water LOUD. I have tried filling the overflow myself and the water just seems to rush down to the sump that much faster. Any ideas?

2) I have a Mag5 down in the sump for the return water. The pump itself is not loud at all, its the actual vibration on the bottom of the 10gal sump which resonates a good bit. Is there any salt water and marine life safe material I could use to put between the Mag5 and the bottom of the sump?

I dont know how big your box is but if you have room you can try a durso mod DURSO MOD or if room is tight i think the other option is a stockman mod. sorry i dont have the link for that(some one should know)

i dont know how you have your plumbing coming up to your tank, but you can try and use some flex hose from the pump to your piping, and they do sell pump pads ive seen them for dolphin im sure there are DIY options out there that some one can tell you about.

The Durso standpipe is very popular and will do a great job to quieten your overflows. I have gone a step further and cut rectangular pieces of acrylic to fit over the top of my overflows. They sit on the lip of the tank and quieten any remaining noise from the water falling over the overflow.

You can try hanging it above the bottom of the sump. That way you won't have to worry about a pad.

If you don't want to take the time to do the Durso modification for your overflow, you might try using a rigid piece of airline and slowly push it down the drain until the noise stops. You can then keep it in place with a plastic clamp or slothes pin (watch out for the metal clips...) This will silence the sucking sound caused by air being drawn down the drain by the force of the syphon. I would prefer the Durso mod, but for now, the noise level can be reduced with the air line. (Look for the Durso mod on Richard Durso's home page:http://www.rl180reef.com/frames.htm )

Is the offending noise caused by water falling into the overflow at a much lower level than the tank? Kind of a loud water fall effect? Or is it the slurpind sound of the water being sucked down the piping?
Do you have the AGA overflow kit that has the standpipe with the floaty ball arrangement that raises the water level inside the overflow?
