New refugium set up...

Well me and a buddy went to the beach today.. wanted to get some sand and rock for my refugium.

Pics of the beach I got my stuff from...

I asked before about micro algae and other stuff to grow in the rufugium... I decided to just pull some of the seawead and a couple other plants out of the water and throw them in and see how they do.

pics of my refugium...

Now for one last question.. I didnt even think about it until my buddy asked why I didnt stick this 40 pound rock that I have sitting down in my parking area in my tank. Could I cure this rock for a while saltwater and stick it in my tank? its been in my parking lot for months if not years...

lighter is for size referance...

I would hesitate about using that rock - since it's been in the parking lot - it can pick up "junk" and can pollute the tank, no matter how good you wash it, it's hrd to get deep into the nooks and crevices.

Since you can pickup rock from the sea, why not go diving and get something "fresh" with life on it?

Hi, fdokinawa, good looking 'fuge setup! Hope the natural algae works out for you!

I'm with Wanareef on the rock. No telling how many chemicals and pollutants have soaked into it and could be very hazardous to your tank and I'd suggest leaving it in the parking lot!

Regards,

Dick

Yes it is a nice looking rock. Better a door stop than a dirty tank.

There is a boat shop right around the corner from my house, the guys there take people out diveing all the time.. need to hurry up and get with them so I can get some good live rock.

Oh, another question on the lrefugium.. I know I should give it it's own light source but should I leave it on all the time??

Most, as I do have it on a RPP (reverse photoperiod) The main tank, lights are on about 10hrs a day, the rest of the time the fuge light is on. Also, at this time (night) is when you should drip kalk to help with the PH or use kalk for top off (when it's up and running that is)
