new project (Need your help)

I have finally purchased my first coral (6" Green Cup Coral) and I realized that I need to take better care of the tank and its inhabitants. I want something that I can use to top-off the tank and add Calc doses when I need to. It's an ambitious project that the wife approves of (for now).

Lend me your thinking caps and tell me what you think.

I would definitely not have a thermostat located above the tank due to corrosion and heat from lights.

In the "what can I do" area, you could set up a kalk drip that would take care of both top off as well as alk/cal.

unfortunately, I don't have much control over where the thermostat is. So far the only drawback is that the thermostat is affected by the heat from the lights instead of the rest of the room.

I was thinking of putting a 10 or 20 gallon tank up there and use it as a refugium. I've seen pictures of a few before, but I can't seem to find one at the moment.

Is it possiable to run the wires to the other side of the hallway door perhaps?

Why not put a float switch in the tank(with appropriate snail guard), and a reservoir of "kalkwater" in the stand. A rubbermaid tub will work just fine. Add a small power head in the tub and connect to float switch. Run tubing from the powerhead to the tank. make sure to terminate the tubing about an inch above the tanks water line so there is no chance of creating a siphon.
Here is a link to what I mean about a snail guard for the float switch.

That's probably a good idea. I know it's not too hard to do.

Thanks!

you could simply run the wires over the top of the door and cover them with a ruffle or some sort of cloth to camo them from site. Shouldnt be that big a deal to do. Add wire on to the existing wires and move it.
