New lights/heat problem

Well I got my MH/PC combo hood yesterday and it is great. One thing though, it raises my water temp from it's normal 78 to 82 degrees (when I turn it off). I don't have any fish or corals, just snails, hermits, pep shrimp, some crabs and a GBS, as I'm still waiting a few months for the reef to mature a little and settle down. Is this range of temp change bad through the course of the day? I imagine this would happen in the ocean but prob not as a great range that I have.

I don't know why it gets so hot, the hood sits right on top of the tank but the hood itself dosent get too hot as I have a fan in the hood. I don't know much about chillers and really don't want to know about them, but if this could be a problem them I'm gonna have to do something about it. Any suggestions or input would be appreciated.

Mike

i recently added mh lights to my system and heres what i did to fix the heat problem.

behind the tank you can barely see the pvc shelf that holds 2 fans i got from target for $12. water stays rock steady at 82 with the fans on their low setting. if i run them at high the temp stays about 80, but the evaporation gets excessive.

basicly its 6 elbow fittings and a 3 ft. piece of pipe the fans rest on. works great and cost less than $20.

Add a fan or two, that should help keep temps down. Once you do that and figure out what temp you come up with for the hi point, turn the heater up to just about there to keep it stable and avoid the temp changes

i agree with doug1 fans works well. before the fans my tank temp is 28 degree celcius after i put 4x5" fan it drops down to 24 degree celcius. with additional four hours aircon time.
