New Lights!

I got my new (used) lights on thursday and put them together and fired them up last night to make sure they worked! They work like a charm, I'm super excited!

It's 3 250w HQI MH 10k and 4 96w actinics from hamilton with 2 fans and a hammertone reflector...whew that was a mouthfull!

I got it for like $680 with shipping and all new never used bulbs (although some of them broke in shipping) did I do good??

It was really hard picking a lighting setup so I wanted to know what you guys though of the setup and price.

Here's a pic

Hi Sara, not too shabby for the price. You did get a glass shield for the fixture, correct? Those HQI lamps put out a huge amount of UV and need the UV protected glass shield to always be in place.

The one piece hammertone reflector for the HQI's isn't the best reflector out there, there are more efficient ways to go that would get the light down into the tank better.

However, all-in-all, for the price you got a decent deal if the lamps aren't too old.

You can kind of see it in the picture but, yes there is a glass shield on the fixture.

The fixture is 1 year old and all of the bulbs are new never used.

I just looked it up on hamilton's website and new it's almost 1200+ shipping so I'm pretty happy with the price...a nice 600 dollar saving!

here's the link to hamiltons site...it's the 6' protostar..last one on the page

Yup, I am familiar with Hamilton.. I am a dealer for their products. If the bulbs are new, you definitely got a good deal and you should have no problems. You should be able to keep almost anything you want under these lights.

Have fun!

I don't know why but the link won't totally work so if you hit the link you have to add the "&" at the end
