New fish - old fish. Blue fish - bad fish.

Ok, so I'm not Dr. Suess.

Well, I put the Regal Tang in the main tank yesterday before the lights went on. Things seemed to be ok, although it was obvious that eveyone would need to adjust.

Well, today right after lights on, I noticed the new regal was "hounding" my marine betta. He follows him everywhere he goes and they both "posture" and flail about. Injury seems to be at a minimum, but it's obvious that they are both stressed and the tang has some "faded" spots, and the betta has a slightly ragged pectoral fin.

Can't re-arrange the rockwork - it's glued in place, having a heck of a time catching either of them. Still can't decide which one will go.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Me either.

Is it a fair fight? Are they both holding their ground pretty well, and one's not bullying and chasing the other? Mostly just some fin nipping and posturing?

I think as long as it's a fair fight, they will both get over it in time and settle down. We had a reef butterfly and a Atlantic long nose go through the same thing for about a week or two. Now they are both at the spoon together.

And don't even get me started on the Jewel fish.

The Regal definitely has the upper fin so to speak, but the betta isn't backing down. He just floats there as if the Regal doesn't exist - which pisses the Regal off even more. I'm just concerned about all the stress - and the spots on the Regal (Not ich, just discoloration).

They are both still eating good - I tried to catch both of them using bait, and they both stole the bait and escaped my trap!

I decided to give them a couple more days. They seem to have declared a truce for the moment, although the betta is hiding under the overflows rather than in the rock.

The regal has on his war paint. It might take a while for him to accept the betta as part of his territory, but he will.

You know what to watch for.

Thanks for the moral support.

I think that may be it for new fish in the tank. I was going to add one more (leaning towards a foxface rabbitfish), but I think after this I'll call it full.

Here's some mov clips of what they are doing. Of course, now they have calmed down some, but this is basically what's been going on.

LOL If you right click on the link and select save target file you can save it to disk before you try to play it. Might work better that way...

Things haven't gotten any better. The betta's tail is pretty beat up this morning.

Gonna watch them close again today before I decide what to do.
