new fish introduced - is behavior cause for concern?
Stopped by the LFS near me that is known for great rare stuff, but high prices to go with it (most corals were 100+). At any rate, they had a mccosker's flasher wrasse for only $50. That was actually cheaper than I'd seen online (w/o shipping!) and it is on my fish list. The guy said he thought it was doable, and considering he had just steered me away from buying a more expensive swallow tail angel (I REALLY want a pair of these or watanabeis, I put my name on the waiting list for when they get a pair), I figured he wasnt trying to push a sale on me, so I went for it. Plus he fed some mysis shrimp and the wrasse went nuts for it. I drip acclimated him for over an hour and a half, netted him, and put him in the tank. He went straight and hid under a rock, just kinda lying there under it. I put a blanket over the tank, which I'm not sure was that necessary since only other fish in there is a royal gramma, and hour later I took the blanket off and he was in the same spot. I dropped in some mysis and he perked up a bit, but only would go a couple inches outside the little cave, he did eat a bit tho. Since he went right back to the cave I covered the tank again, this time for 3 hours. I just took the cover off and he still is hiding in the cave just kinda lying there (not on his side really, but kinda pressed against the wall of the cave. Could be he is just sleeping since its dark? or just scared and I should leave it dark over night? Anything else I should do? (Water change was done in the AM, before he arrived and water levels are good: 0,0,0 and ph 8.3.)

I wouldnt do anything special with it. Hes probably frightened because hes in a whole new environment. Id take the cover off the tank, and just let it be. And check him out in the morning.....

Indeed it was...that is actually the first good experience I've had there. The previous times people had come of as arrogant, etc., but this time the guy was really helpful and knowledgable, he steered me away from about 3 purchases before we decided on the wrasse. They do have awesome stuff tho, I'm really hoping they get the watanabei or swallow tail pair in sometime soon (he says they get them once or twice a year).

Have you gone to Sharkys? It is a hike from the city but well worth it in terms of quality and value. The overhead alone at Old Town bumps up the prices quite a bit!

You can try rearranging the live rock to displace the Gramma's territory

Havent been, I'll put it on the list. I've been wanting to check out Ocean's Floor, Shotank, and Dark Lord Corals, have you been any of those places?

yikes! is that 100% necessary? that is a major task with my tank the top access is not so easy the job requires 2 people, and I really like how it is designed and I've got all the corals attached, etc. Is this something that will work itself out and they'll get used to each other? Or will it continue until the wrasse is scared to death. I feel really bad for him just hiding in his cave, but I'd like to avoid changing the rocks around...I thought gramma were supposed to be peaceful, I guess I got a tough guy

Actually not sure off hand, their website is www.darklordcorals.com. Everyone on the CMAS board has been raving about it. Have you checked that board out? I've got some great deals from people selling frags there, even giving them away.
