Very big thanks to Horge for submitting his article, Field Data from a Near-shore Coral Reef in Balayan Bay, Phillippines, to us.

I have selected his article to be featured for the next month.

Please take a look! http://www.thereeftank.com/article

Thanks for the article, Horge. It's about as close as I'll ever get to such a project. Snapshot is a good way to see what's going on in that area.

Many thanks!

Thanks Horge! I was surprised how constant the Salinity stayed except for the rains which is to be expected. Walking on coral, now that was a surprise, but like you say Horge, the locals know what they are doing! Great job done Horge and look forward to your next article! Johnny

interesting

I thought the temperature fluctuations were very interesting considering most of use heaters to maintain constant temperature.

I wonder if there would be an advantage to designing a system to fluctuate in temperature?

Samson, that would be THE question, now, wouldn't it?

It's been argued that wide temp variance encourages more biodiversity, because for at least part of the reef day, everyone is living really comfortably, whether they prefer it a tad warm or somewhat cool.

However, if small variance seems to work NOW (in reeftank, I mean)
...why fix it?

Great article! It sounds like it was fun to do. I was in the Bahamas a few years ago and similar data was being collected.
