New EXTREME 10g Build...Old one Scraped

Yea after seeing the pics in my who uses rock lifts thread i decided to scrap the old 10g project in favor of a new one. The old tank had a meire ONE hole drilled into it. On the drawing boards this one so far is going to have 9 yes 9 Bulkheads drilled into it. Stupid, yes, Time consuming, Yes. But i have to much time on my hands so here it goes....To the batmobile. Rough scetches to follow in minutes.

I would be very, very worried about the glass being able to hold together with so many holes in it.

I agree. Thats too many holes for a 100 gallon glass tank unless it had at LEAST 1/2" or more thick glass IMO.

Good luck though, i Like the enthusiasm.

Like you im not sure about how the glass will take the load but i still wanna try it. 10g are only 10 bucks so...

Worst case scenario if the glass breaks i plan on taking our the bottom and pack plates and going to my local glass shop and replacing it with 3/8" glass. Hopefully that would bear the load well enoulf.

I was planning on 1" drains and 1/2" returns for the most part. Mabe 3/4" drains for the CLS..
The tank will be bare bottom and for sps so im plannin on a ton of flow. Drawing to come in 5 min.

i do not like to put my CLS inlets anywhere they can possibly be behind rockwork. they will be very difficult to clean.

why not use a 20g instead of a 10g for all of those holes.

Plus one inlet for the pump will make one less hole and less plumbing. A 1" should support whatever pump you are using for a 10G

i agree, one drain for cls, and you can put one hole for the spray bars in back too. just run the bar all the way across. a few elbows will take it around the over flow just fine.

Im only concerned about lossing flow twords the end of the line...Thats why i have two.

For the inlet for CLS i see what you are talking about. Any ideas where i could put ONE i guess that is mildly symetrical (part of what im goin for). The only thing i was concerned about was weather a 1" Inlet would feed enough for 4 CLS outlets.

And the reason im doing it on a 10g is simply because it seems like most people dont think it can be done and work. Ordered the bulkheads today from my LFS>...Cost a small fortune..Ok who am i kidding it was a real big fortune for me..68 bucks for 9 bulheads...Croiky.

But non the less itll be fun in the end.

what size pump are you thinking?

have you measured a bulkhead yet? their flanges are a bit wider than you are thinking. i say wait untill you get the bulkheads before you start finalizing your holes. i have a feeling several will not fit where you are hoping.

Yeah for all your bulkheads....I'd use 1" inlet for the CLS and 1/2" for all the returns as 3/4" will take up a lot more room and for the flow coming out of these 1/2" should be plenty.

I ordered 3 1" bulheads, and 6 1/2" Bulkheads. Im not finalizing hole placement or anything yet untill i have the bulkheads in hand and know what size hole they need....Drawings werent to scale. I have a few 3/4"s layin around just to play around. Cant wait till they get in.
