Question

New Barnicle Blenny...anyone know anything about these guys???

This is the cutest little bugger you ever saw! Just sits there checking things out and waits for food to go by. Then he zips out and grabs it. Very fast and fun. Anyway, I thought it was cool. I will try to get some pics soon. If you guys know anything about these let me know...

Hi Harrison!

Are these the little guys with the red circles around their eyes? They are very cute indeed, if we're thinking the same one. Evidently, they haven't been available in the trade very long, maybe six months(?). I saw a pic of them a while back and fell in love with them but I haven't been able to get one yet!

This little guy has a maroon face and white splotched face and then it fades into a brown and white "camo" pattern body. He is about an inch and a half long and he just pokes his little head up and watches for food to pass by. He wiggles from side to side to poke his head out and see. GREAT personality! When I got him, (Octopuss Garden LFS)Ron told me they were tough to find. It was alos double the cost of other fish. (25 bucks). So far he hasn't paid any attention to the barnicle he came in, but took up residence in a soft coral of mine. Very fun to watch. My clown is still trying to figure him out

I saw some of the at the LFS a month ago, but my tank was not ready! They are now gone....this will be a definite addition to my reef when I find them again.

Fishbase lists four with the common name "Barnacle Blenny" but no pictures. http://www.fishbase.org/ComNames/CommonNameSearchList.cfm
A couple of them come from the Galapagos so I doubt these would be in the trade, at least I hope not!

Red-Spotted Barnacle Blenny, Hypsoblennius brevipinnis from the Galapagos.

Thanks Drew,

That was exactly what I was looking for. Sounds like I paid a little more for them but he is worth it. It also sounds like I could get a couple of them with no probs. When my bigger tank gets here I will have plenty of room for them. Oh, one more thing the feeding was fun to watch they are fast.

Thanks again. [Cheers]

Hey the little guy is in the barnical today!!! I think the softy he was in shrinks up too much for him at night so he packed up and moved...

I would recommend these guys if someone want an interesting fish to watch in a peaceful tank...

I agree...they are really fun to watch and really fast!

I recently purchased a medium (1 1/2") "red-lipped" blennie. The lfs had by itself, said it was too aggressive when they put it in with the other fish??--but it was so cute I had to get it!
It's been fine with my other blennie (yellow w/pink cheeks, don't know the real name) and Tomato Clown.

"Red" and "Tommy" dart around at feeding time, w/Red going back to the rocks to eat what he's captured then returning for the "race." "Bennie"
just darts out of the rocks and back, he's never out too long from his territory.

Anyway, I agree they are too cute!!! Enjoy--Red really enjoys chasing the live brine shrimp...
