I was reading about burying a rock a bit in the sand and using the sand to prop him up so he'll attach and i wont have to worry about him jumping and falling... do you have any experience with this? TIA

Yep  I do that with my maximas, it works great IME,.. Plus if you have him attached to a small rock you can move him easily if need be,.. unlike if you attach him to a major rock in the rockwork.
