new addition foxface and yellow tang

After getting my water tested at the LFS..everything seems good so i bought a foxface and a yellow tang..first of all the yellow tang seems to be doing well..but he doesnt look like he is swimming normal..all he does is swim from one corner to another..going through the same rocks or caves..he looks like he is playing with the powerhead's current but i might be wrong..just want to point that out..any idea??

...and secondly..the foxface was the other addition to my tank..i might just be rushing too fast on conclusion but he is in hiding right now..i want to monitor him but i just cant get a reading on him right now..is this normal that he will go into hiding and not even peek out??

another question is how do you guys acclimate your fishes?? what i did was let it sit in the sump so that the temperature will even out..and then i use the drip method..after that i let him sit in the main tank..this takes me about an hour or two..

but i've heard people quaranteen it for a week or so..any suggestions??

Quarantining is highly recommended.

Your acclimation method sounds good. I don't see anything abnormal with their behavior. They're going to be stressed for a day or two, so don't jump to conclusions.

Just be patient and see how they do.

Yeah, I have to agree. I think this is very common for almost all fish. I think it'd actually be somewhat abnormal for fish to just get right in and start swimming like nothing has changed. I added a couple damsels to cycle my tank, and of all fish damsels are anything but shy! But they hid for about 3 days straight, only barely emerging to eat. In fact for the first couple days I had to use a turkey baster to get food to where they were hiding just so I knew they were eating. Nothing unusual in my opinion, in a few days to a week they should be much better.

I was tying to search your posts and get some background on your tank, its fairly new setup? what size. You need to monitor the ammonia and nitrite levels closely now after adding 2 fish, neither of which are really good choices for a new set up Hope you have access to some good quality SW to do water changes

Foxfaces are nervous by nature - not unusual for it to take on a mottled brown "banana peel" appearance for a while. They also seem to do better if there are other "dither fish" in the tank - if they are alone they tend to hide (fear of predator lurking?), but if there are other active fish, they come out of hiding more quickly.

I don't suggest adding anything more - the yellow tang will quickly claim the tank for his own and may give grief to any other smaller fish you add. I usually recommend adding the tang last (provided the tank is of appropriate size, of course).

HTH

I agree with Jenn on the foxface. Ours is the shyest guy in the tank. Also, if ich ever breaks out he is the "canary" that gets a dot or two first. Also, he loses his color any time anything happens.

Not a lot of exp with the foxface group, but they are like cousins to tangsso they do share some of the tangs strong and weak points, predominatly vegetarian, easily stressed, tend to hide more than most tangs, have venomous fins(take care) and may or may not get along with your yellow. IMO FWIW neither is a good first fish, but then I love Sailfins and I have come to the conclusion that a 75 is not big enough
