Question

New 100 gallon Stocking list

Well the girlfriend won and this tank is going to be a reef tank as well. currently there is a yellow tang in there. i was thinking

mandarin in about 6-7 months.
tank was bought used and is still full of pods.(flea circus at night)

a yellow watchman or yellow sleeper headed goby

flame hawk or longnose hawk

yellow eye kole tang or a gold rim tang.

sixline wrasse (how bad do they jump?)

three reef chromis.

i would not put all of these fish at the most i am thinking about 7 fish at the most. any thoughts or other suggestions would be nice

Lose the gold rim tang from the potentials list and stick with the kole, much more suitable for that tank.

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

6 lines are not known to be jumpers, at least ime. but will compete for the pods however.

I agree with the six line
It shouldn't jump.

I also agree that the six line will compete for pods with the mandarin.
There's a few issues with them. I'm not sure if there is a rule of thumb for tank size/amnt of rock necessary to sustain a mandarin but I believe you would find the size recommended by many suprisingly large.
Also it is possible to get mandarins eating prepared. The only issue with this is that they are slower moving and usually hang out on the rocks/sand. Faster fish... like the six line will get to the food quicker. I learnt this lesson with a scooter.

If you aren't set on the dragonette I'd go for the wrasse. They are so active and just interesting to watch, that along with being easier to feed make it the better pick IMO.

Also a six line should be OK with those other tank mates. I would add the wrasse after the goby and the chromis though.

Speaking of chromis. I have heard from many that although they hang out when they are small as they grow in captivity they can become aggressive with each other.

Hope this helps, by the wa kole tangs own... good pick

tank has two 175w metal halides and I am going to look at the ballast to see if they will do 250's. its has a 65g sump with a protein skimmer in it. not sure on the brand. I will probably loose the chromis due to the fact they wont stay schooled. if the six line wont jump then that will be the winner. Coral wise i plan on doing some softies and some LPS maybe a monti or two but not sure. Kole tank will also be going in. so as i see it now.

yellow tang

kole tang

sixline wrasse

not sure on what hawk or goby yet.

i also do not think that 5-7 fish would be too much for a 100g being most of these fish are relatively small.

hawks can be aggressive, one thing for sure though is they will be a pita to your corals
and can kill them by constantly sitting on them.
on the bright side, the flame hawk has always been one of my fav.
for now 5-7 is not crowding, but the tangs will get to border line huge for 100g.
