I would just raise it by instead of adding fresh water to account for evaporation, add artificial saltwater to your desired SG until it is there

how big is the tank? i would just start putting a 1/4cup of salt in the sump once a day untill the desired S.G. is reached. put it as far from the return pump as possible to give it more time to mix before hitting the display.
i do this all of the time to counteract the 1gallon of skimmate i remove from my tank a day.
3/4 cup of salt raises my 150g total system about .001

it is only really bad to put large amounts of salt in one place at a time. if a pile of salt is allowed to form on the bottom of the sump it will cause the Ca to fall out of solution and become a crust on the bottom. if poured in slowly over a large are in the sump, than there no harm putting the salt directly into the system.
the same thing goes for mixing salt for WC. if you are getting a white crust on the bottom of the WC container than you are dumping to much in to fast.

You never want to put salt directly in the main tank with inhabitants; as it may land on corals/inverts and you'll see the slug+salt effect. Dumping it in the sump allows it to dissolve before it gets to the main tank.

In my opinion if you want to raise it very conservatively, do a small water change with the sg higher, like 1.026 - and continue doing that over a period of a week or more. Depends on how much you change out - but do it slowly to avoid shocking any inhabitants.

I agree with using salt water for topoffs, seem like the easiest and safest thing to do to me. Anyway, you probably need to mix up some ASW for a water change eventually anyway.
