Marinedepot also has a model. Runs solely on batteries though---no plug.....Also much cheaper $6 I think....

The thing is I wanted one that plugs in so that turns on automatically when the power cuts out. I have a battery powered unit now but If im gone for the weekend and lets say my GFCI trips or something happens then I won't find out for 2 days. I would at least like to get them some aeration.

If your handy at DIY or know someone that is here's a DIY power back-up that will keep your water pump running if the power goes out http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...hlight=battery

I have the same one you linked to. It works great. Whenever the power is off, it automatically comes on. One D cell battery goes a long time. I recomment it.

I'm with Homer on this one. For a 72 I'd probably get 2, one for each end of the tank. These are different from "bait pumps" in that there is a plug to go into the wall and when the wall socket stops being "hot", the battery kicks on and starts the pump.
I sold bunches of those during the recent Hurricane season
They have been out of stock for a while since that hurricane season - make sure your vendor actually has them and they aren't back ordered. I've had trouble getting them in.

Thanks. I will probably orderer two tomorrow. I was proud of myself yesterday. I have never changed an outlet before and woohoo I put in a GFCI outlet. Also, since my outlet is litterally 1 foot away from my sump under my tank I put in one of those waterproof covers that they use for outdoors. That way any water splash from me won't get on it. The sump itself doesn't splash though. Not really hard at all. The outlet was much cheaper than buy an extra plugin with a GFCI in it.

By the way. Thanks for the link DWall but that is too much involved right now. I am in an apartment and don't want to put a generator on my balcony. I will probably get one when I get my house but that one will be for the whole house too. Thanks anyways.

Did you order them yet? I’m just curious how they worked? They sound like a good idea to have set-up just incase!

Tony, considering where you work , check into power inverters, dunno, mebbe 400 watts or more, run it off gel-cell batteries,(emergency lights/kid's ride'em toys)
match it up to the air pump in question, and see what you got for run time, you can even hook up to a charger/maintainer that'll keep it charged ,and turn on when 110 is lost,,
Very rarely is power lost for extra long times around us, unless you count the winter a few years back, when i was out o power/heat for 6 days,,,,
(got a generator now, if i never use it, it's still worth the $$$$)

Well if he can get electronics through work?

Here's a plug & play unit with a built-in battery charger & a 500-watt inverter!
http://www.price1.com/main.html carries them just click on the "Utility Link" then the "Power Inverters link"

Good idea. Or better yet, put it on a timer circuit to start your portable generator and trip your main power breaker. You could run your whole house off of generator power for a little more than the cost of parts. If you realy wanted to go whole hog, put a monitor circuite on the AC to kill the genny and switch back to commercial power.

When the hurricanes hit FL, we had no power for 11 days. I didnt loose one fish when using the Wal-Mart 2D cell air pump. Its not quiet, but it will get the job done.
It was less than $10.
