Welcome to TRT!!

Before you add snails and hermits your levels (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate) should be zero; around two weeks to a month. Fish and especially inverts, you should wait at least 1 month after levels hit zero.

The longer you wait the better you will be in the end.

We are here to help. I can promise you if you just keep on asking questions and posting and no question is a dumb question. The only dumb question is the one you dont ask. Just keep posting and reading other threads and i can promise you if you do what is told you will have a nice looking tank.

You are wet skimming to much. Try reducing the air to the skimmer and see what happens. It takes some adjusting to get it just right.

do u need a skimmer in a 25 gallon tank? I also have the nitrate balls too. I dont think the skimmer is working right. Its a clarity plus system skimmer and nitrate balls.
thanks andy

The skimmate should like like a Sobe Green Tea or a bit darker. Also, even though your water tests well your chances of stuff living gets better with time. I am a crappy engineer so I think a graph of time vs. tank stability can be either a parabolic or hyperbolic function..the nerds in the think tank can debate that.

Two months with a turkey baster and water changes every couple of weeks and you should be cool for a clean up crew.

The appearance of a bit of green algae and the disappearance of the brown diatom stuff is a good sign too.
