Question

Need Id On Huge Worm Please

Every night when my lights go out a huge black & white striped worm crawls out from one of the live rocks.

When it extends it seems to go on forever.

I will find it difficult to catch it on camera but from my description can anyone tell me what kind it is?

Thanks

There are about a gazillion types of worms out there. Does it look fuzzy, smooth, segmented or? Can you see any kind of appendages on it's head? Anything missing or munched on in your tank?

Let's see if we can narrow it down some.

sounds like it shouldn't be hard to catch
put it in a butter or ice cream container and take a pic

Just don't touch it without knowing what it is
that could be bad
good luck!

As Alice pointed out, it could be a zillion things. But long extending-forever black and white striped makes me think "peanut worm." I have no idea what the scientific name is, but I've got several. They only appear at night, and only if I happen to look just in the right place. Mine have never caused any problems to my knowledge. Most worms are not problematic, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Just my 2c,
Danielle

Thanks guys.

Sorry I do appreciate there are a zillion type of worms found in aquariums but I just thought it may be a common creature like a bristle worm.

The best way I can describe it is that it is literally extremely thin & has black & white stripes going across it's body & is that simple.

I have only seen it at night but if anyone has any suggestions on how this can be caught then please let me know.

Thanks

Do you ever see both ends?

Is it tiny and long like a hair?

If you said no to the first one and yes to the 2nd..
It may be a spaghetti worm.

I only see one end as the other end stays inside the rock.

I would say it is a bit thicker than a piece of hair.

Sipunculid aka Peanut worm for sure. They are a rock boring worm, so you won't see the whole thing. They are a Beneficial detrivore, and a common hitchhiker on LR.
