Need help plumbing for my fluval 304

Has anyone ever replaced the ribbed hose for the Fluval 304 external canister? I'm thinking of replacing mine because seems like dirt builds up on the ribbed and I wanted to install my UV Sterilizer between the return hose. I need help on what type of hose/pipe, the size and what connections. Any suggestions would really help. Thanks

Pat

Pat,
is that the tubing running to the tank?
it most lily is 3/4 inch .. you can pick that up at either the LFS or home repair store. it should slide over the knobs onthe top of the canaster. if you have a small piece of extra tubing take it with you to make sure the ID is the same. but all tubing will need to be cleaned form time to time, clear tubing seems to get a build up in it faster since it is exposed to light

why do you use the Fluval? these are generally not recommended for SW systems. they are usefull for polishing the water for about an hour or two right after a water change to clean up any floating detritus left behind. after two hours it is a good idea to remove it from the system until next WC.

are you just running carbon only in it?

Yeah I just use it as my carbon only, I wanted to install a sump but my tank is a 30 gallon cube and I don't know how to install and it seems like it's taking up space in it. Plus my local Reef store recommended me on getting it. What would you recommend on a good external biofilter?? thanks

none.

not a big fan of those detrital traps. these create a lot of extra work for you, for no real benefit. carbon only, no other media in there at all. no floss, no balls, no bricks, no nothin, just carbon.
