Need help my gsp won't open

Well i have had my green star polyps for 3 weeks and they have done great, but 2 days ago they closed up and will not open. All my test results are good, and the coral has plenty of lighting and flow. They are in a 12 gal nano cube dx with the placement near the top of the tank. Any ideas on what could be my problem? Too much flow Too much light? I duno but i'am starting to get stressed.
Thanks joel neal

Welcome to TRT!!

softies are tough to figure out sometimes. did you do a big water change just before they started not looking so hot? they can handle a fair amount of flow so i doubt you have to much flow over them, maybe to little, but prolly not to much.

could you tell us more about your system? what kind of filtration, lighting, all of the gorey details.

Welcome to TRT!!! As Geoff said they can be funny sometimes, and a good place to start would be to look at what you did different b4 they started to not open. When you say your test results are "good" what do you mean by that? specifics are much more helpful for us to try and help you, such as what are you testing for? what are the actual readings and such.

Thanks for the welcome xtopher and Geoff. I also live in pittsboro Geoff, cool. As for more info on my tank and test results i have a 3 stage built in filtration, frist compartment foam filter, second compartment bag of carbon, third nothing but the pump, Lighting is 2 24 watt pc 50/50s, my flow rate is 106 from the factory but i added a 80 gpm power head. Test results nitrate 0ppm, nitrite 0 ppm, ph of 8.3, ammonia 0ppm, salanity 1.023. I duno of any big chages that i have done to have caused this problem. Just can't figure it out.

Welcome to TRT! My GSP will close up for about a week once every few months. I'm not sure why, and he always comes back.

When was the last time you changed/cleaned your sponge filter? The reason I ask is this is a site for detritus accumulation and with it breaking down, if unkempt, it may be breaking down causing high phosphates.

I notice that my gsp dont like to be put anywhere near any type of leather ... not 100% sure why .. but if I put a leather near my gsp they will close up .. and not open again untill I move the leather ...

Chemical warfare is my only explanation

no xtopher no skimmer, but i do a 1.5 gallon water change every wed, and i try to clean my filter every other time with the water that i take out of the tank. I have also read that i do not need to dose my tank with weekly water changes if i use a good salt mix, i use reef crystals, but since the gsp problem i have started to use nano a and b a mix just for nano tanks i guess?

and this is exactly what is going on. you might want to use more carbon or start carbon if you are not already. this will limit the effects of the warefare in the water column.

Tom can go into more detail if you poke him.

Joel Neal- what else do you have in the tank?
