Question

Need help in IDing a clam/mussel...(pic)

Hi All,

I posted before about these, but I didn't have a pic. I decided to scan the actual creatures. They are basically black and white...they look a little green in the pic. They are about 1/3" to 1/2" in size.

I have been told they might be Zebra Mussels or Coquina Clams...I haven't found anything on the net that looks just like them.

Hopefully now with a pic/scan you can help.

Thank you,

They sounded familiar from your first description but now that I have seen you pic - I have a couple of those in my tank =- they are barnacles......one of mine is about 1/4 inch and sits just above the water line - the other is more like 1/2 to 3/4 inch and is on one of the rocks with a cluster of anemone polyps......they appeared one day "out of thin air".....not sure of a "techie" name for them but I don't think they are harmful!

Brooke,

200lbs of the LR came from Tonga (Vanisi) and about 5lbs came from Florida (aquacultured).

I have had the Tonga rock since January and the FL rock since Oct.

I never saw any of these things and all of a sudden about a week or so ago, there they were. I stare at my tank for hours per day and I would have thought I would have seen them before this (if they were there). They seem to grow pretty fast.
