Butch is correct for sure on the live sand, waste of $'s. There are many benefits to a sump, but there are a few good hang-on skimmers that can be effective. (There is a lot more to a sump than just a place to put the skimmer.) For lighting you can keep any corals under mh lighting or under T5 lighting w/ individual reflectors. You can make your own lights or buy pre-built fixtures. As Butch mentioned, if you can give us more detail on what type of corals you are planning, we can offer more details on what you might need to make it work.
