need fuge help

have a 55 g reef just added 20g fuge, 5 in sand bed live rock macro algae been told to add/remove bioballs also remove emperor 400 filter have about 65 to 75 lbs live rock in 55. can someone give me some good advice also running cpr backpack II protein skimmer

Where are the bio balls at in this equation? What are your plans for the system? If you want a full reef then removal of the bio balls is recommended.

You can still use the emporer 400 as a place to run carbon, or other chemical media, in the system if you need to but it is not one of the best options.

The CPR Bak Pak II is a hang on tank skimmer and should be fairly straight forward to set up on the tank. The main issue with it will be adjusting the amount of air it is pulling in, using the little muffler on the end of the air line, to control the production of the bubbles. You want it to make a lot of very fine bubbles so the foam will rise the collection cup, but not too many or you will get microbbbles dumping into your tank from it.

water goes in in chamber on right app. 3in sand bed and live rock in middle along with algae app 18in bio balls in 3rd compartment app 7in with sump pump (return to main tank)
