Okay, for those of you who didn't catch my other post:
I found a leak in my sump a couple nights ago and so I pulled it out and stuck the rock and sand in a bucket with saltwater for 24 hours, changing it once. After I sealed the sump with silicone and waited 24 hours, I put everything back in, but I noticed a foul smell from the materials that were in the bucket. I decided to try and put it in and test it later. I put a powerhead in the sump and rigged a hose that went from the powerhead in the return area back to the drain area, which circulated the water. 24 hours later, I tested the water and all the readings were at 0. No ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate.
Since there were no detectable levels, I hooked it back up to the tank. I have to buy some more
macro algae.
Do you guys think it is a good idea what I did?? I am going to test the water every day for the next week or so, and if I notice anything spiking, I will discoonnect the sump and do a 50% water change. What you guys think???
