Freeze dried food given to lionfish has shown to cause lockjaw.

Just a question.. The lionfish has a hiding spot and you only see him in the morning for a few minutes.. After i transfer all corals and fish to the 55 i was thinking of a way to see him more and came up with the thought of having one 50/50 bulb and one actinic bulb so its 25/75 actinic, making the tank look darker and tempting the lionfish to come out more, but my question is what are some ways to make a cave for the lionfish to hide in but still be able to see him? Could i use some PVC and put LR on top to make a kind of shelf for him to hide underneath?

You can do that. They should come out more!Check your water parameters and that you don't have stray voltage!

I think its just because hes new to the tank and was also new to the LFS so hes scared. He eats well though! What should i do about bacteria once i start cooking my rock? What could i add to the tank to act as biological filtration instead of LR without causing a cycle?

They can eat with bad water. What should i do about bacteria once i start cooking my rock?I'd only cook 1/4 at a time. My hair algae problems were fixed when I moved my 55G reef to the basement and used new live sand. I think my problem was about 90% old sand from previous owner that I didn't know to change when I purchased and moved the tank to my house and 10% light from the patio door. Now my hair and cyano are almost extinct in my tank and the corals are doing great.
