need 75gal STAND ideas
okay... just bought a 75gal tank (48in long by 18in deep) BUT NO STAND...
going to put this in my "GreatRoom" which is my family/living room.... all our furniture in the room is contemporary.... I went to all the LFS's and everything is UGLY traditional looking wood.
I'M THINKING ABOUT THIS WEEKEND GOING TO SOME CONTEMPORARY FURNITURE STORES AND LOOKING AT NON-AQUARIUM FURNITURE TO USE AS A STAND. (by non-aquarium I mean a piece of furniture not specifically designed exactly for an aquarium)
Anybody have any experience, ideas, thoughts, comments, etc....?
The only thing I can think of TO AVOID is buying something with 4legs.... thats alot of weight to be putting on soemthing with just 4legs plus the fact that the 4legs will grind a permanent hole into my carpet... I know to try and find something that lays flat all around the base -or- something I can "cut" the legs off of.

the most basic stand could be comprised of (2) 48"x18" 2x4 frames joined together by some 30-36" 4x4" legs. i've thrown a few of them together in the past w/ some great results. my 55 gal cichlid tank is sitting on one right now.

just use some cinder blocks
Do you know anyone that does woodworking as a hobby? I'd build it myself before I'd buy a stand.

Not sure if regular tables would hold the weight of a fully loaded 75 gal tank. I would definitely build my own stand if I were you. Use plywood for the skin and paint it to match you other furniture. Black semigloss would probably go with any style furniture.

Show us a picture of the room you want to put it in and the furniture you want it to match. Never know what kind of creative minds may exist around here.

Agreed with hng, any stand painted plack would fit in in pretty well with almost any furniture style.
Here is my 20g stand.
