Natural skimmer in my sump

I just recently setup my new 100 gal tank last week. I am currently just cycling the tank right now to make sure there aren't any leaks or surprises before I move over my existing setup. I have a vertical standpip for a drain(1 1/2") and a 3/4"(Iwaki-40?) closed loop with a 1" return(pcx-55)

Question one has been solved and now I move on to question 2.

My sump has turned into a natural skimmer. I have all kinds of micro bubbles in the sump and the return pump of course is pumping them into the tank. Any ideas? Currently my return pipe is just a vertical pipe straight down from the tank. Thanks

What a lot of folks do is install baffles into the sump, basically a bubble trap. You can buy 1/4" acrylic at a hardware store, cut it to fit in the sump, and then silicone it in place. This has a number of other benefits too, and you can see an example of some baffles in the sump I built in the build thread in my signature.

Another option is to put some sort of filter sock over the end of the pipe to try and catch the bubbles, but I dont know how effect that is, and you'd want to clean it pretty often.
