What are you considering as "dim lighting"? What kind of lights do you have and what size tank is it? I have mushrooms in a 12G tank with a 13W PC bulb on it. They seem to open up more because they are looking for the light.

Feed it light. They are what is called "photosynthetic". Simply put, they eat light for food.

Glue them down or let them attach to a rock, then put the rock where you want it. Just remember, the mushroom might not like where you put it though.
