Naked Nassarius Snail
I was checking out my 100g this morning and found a nassarius snail cruising around without it's shell. Do these things normally leave their shells? I thought they grew their own shells. I know it's only a snail, but I think they are cool.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong but I am guessing it's not a nassarius snail.

Ya, it's a nassarius, I found it's empty shell. Same snorkel as the rest of them.

snails dont leave their shells, they are attached to them, you most likly saw some type of slug, maybe a snail that just has a very small shell.

If your snail is cruising around without it's shell then its dead and only moving in the flow, maybe it's a nudi or some type of worm, snails dont leave there shells.

I just found something similar in my tank last night, it looks like a snail without the shell, the little research I have done, make me point to some form of sea slug but I don't know for sure. I looked this morning for it and couldn't find it. I will try and get a picture next time I see it but no guarantees....

I also very much doubt it's a living nassuras snail without it's shell,.. Stominalla snails also have feelers, but there usually not white. Can you get a pic? It might help with an ID.

I'll try if it will come out again. What ever it is was cruising along and not floating.

I had something on my glass once that roughly looked like the foot of a nassarius snail but it didn't have a shell. I think I finally concluded that it was a flatworm. It eventually dissappeared and I assume died.

Aah,.. Maybe a hermit ripped it out and it was just trolling around for it's last few min of life?
Sorry to hear about your snail anyway.
