The sand will settle in about 3-7 days depending on how well it was rinsed beforehand (I'm presuming not at all). Filters will help, but obviously, you'll have to change out the pads regularly or else you'll just release it back into the system

I agree. the sand will settle in a few days or so. i had the same thing happen even when i rinsed the sand. it just takes time to settle. Rinse your filters from time to time so you dont release it back into the tank as said above.

the skimmer will take some out too. keep it clean. i found that it helped to periodically siphon off the rocks, which helped remove some of the dust that settled there. let the bucket of siphoned water sit for half a day and all the particles will settle to the bottom. you can then recover 90% of the water you siphoned.

what you are waiting for is the particles to be colonized by bacteria. these bacteria make the particles clump together and settle out.

Since you just put in the sand, can I assume the tank has just been set up?

If so, It is probably too early to put fish in the tank. the tank needs to go through its cycle first, and using fish to cycle the tank is kind of a no-no. Is there a possibility you can take the fish back to the lfs and pick them up again in a month or two?

Yeah The Sand Was Rinsed In RO/DI Water. And Yeah It's Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay To Early To Put The Fish In. Just LR And Sand So Far. We Had To Start Over From Square One Due To A Stand Malfunction And A Soaked Living Room Incident. We Were BB Last Time, Thought Sand Would Be Cool This Time.... Whoooopsie.
