My starving Diamond Goby
My Diamond spotted goby has been getting thinner and thinner which I've seen other reports of the same type of thing from other people. I'm trying to keep my nutrient import down by feeding less but at the same time the Goby is obviously not getting enough to each sifting the new sand. Usually if I drop some shrimp in there he'll stuff one in his mouth but he won't even do that now. He barely comes out and is just wasting away under the rocks. Food floats by him and he won't take it. I'm afraid I'm going to lose the guy and I've had him over a year and he is one of my fav's.

it's tough to watch

Mine checked out yesterday. I spot fed(over fed my tank) him a few times but to no avail. I left him in there for the crabs to snack on. I tried 2 diamonds over the last 14 months and had the same result. I am done with killing them.

Well mine finally died this weekend. Poor guy. He would eat shrimp when I put it in there but I've been so busy lately that by the time I noticed his condition he was too far gone to eat. Bummer. He was a favorite for everybody that came over.

I wonder if there is a collection issue with these guys. Regardless, I am very sorry for your loss.

I am also two for two on Diamond Gobies. The first took the leap to the his death one night and the other literally starved himself. He was fine for awhile but one day stopped siffting and eating and just layed in a hole, shrivaled up and died. All I can say is; Time to get out of the Goby biz.

Most sand sifting animals will not do well long term in a tank. they can totally decimate the sand bed fauna and then they die. best to avoid all sand sifting gobies and stars. large cucumbers are the same too.

How often are you feeding your other fish. It seems as long as you feed every couple of days they should be fine, but then i guess they all are different.

problem is they don't actually eat the prepared food
they appear to be eating it,

I feed the little sinking pellets every day, but not a lot. If it made it to the bottom he'd get it. I wasn't putting in enough for it to make it down before being eaten by other fish so he wasn't getting any. I'd had him over a year.
