My next opinion needed - Tuxedo Urchin

Hi everyone,

I recently asked people's opinions regarding the diamond (sand-sifting) goby.

Next in line for a discussion (that directly benefits me ) is the Tuxedo Urchin. IMO they are darn cool looking. I do know the reputation as little destructors as well, and the issues with eating coralline.

Any thoughts from those who are keeping/or have kept, these creatures?

Thanks all, Jake

My opinion...very cool and good clean up members...but they knock stuff over too much and sometimes even move stuff around the tank...for my tank, I vote pass...just too clumsy to work for me.

I agree.. they are cool creatures, but have a tendency to decorate themselves with expensive frags

They're great little creatures. I have two of them. I don't have a problem with them moving frags, but I also glue the frags in place. I have three urchins in my tank, 2 tuxedos and a pincushion (Tripneustes gratilla) The coralline grows to fast for them to keep up with.

They will also chew on anything plastic, leaving little star shaped scratches. It's not bad but after 2 years it is starting to become noticeable on my powerheads.

Urchins rule, I say get one.

Certainly a no for acrylic tanks. The damage is noticeable after just a short period.

We love ours but have a wide open 75g with glued down frags. He does like to decorate with everything from old snail shells to the Nori clip.
