My next aquarium...complete with whale shark

Hi Reefers

Check out my next aquarium.

Yes the big fishy is a whale shark...in an aquarium!!!!

They "only" grow to 50+ feet and weigh more than 18 metric tons. That is a little bigger than my blue tang.

http://www.chample.tv/churaumi/kuroshio250.asx

I am wondering if it is worth to install one at my home as cleaning the glass looks like it might take a while.

Happy Reefing!

Hmmm

It is supposed to launch your windows media player.

Alternatively, go to
http://www.chample.tv/churaumi/index_en.html

Click on 2F and then Kuroshiro Sea

....or scroll down until you see Kuroshiro Sea.

The video is in Japanese...but it is very cool!

It would take someone with BIG pipe experience to set up the plumbing for that
not to mention the refugium you would need to provide plankton and krill in that amount

Hi JP

Better luck next time. I hope you win!

That tank is "only" 1,700,000 gallons. It might take a while to do some water changes.

The panel is 8.2m (27 feet) tall and 22.5m wide

WHAT do over 120 big aquariums across the world, from New York and Barcelona to Shanghai and Riyadh, have in common? All use acrylic glass made by Nippura, a Japanese firm with only 60 employees, which has won around three-quarters of the global market for these panels. Nippura made the world's biggest acrylic glass panel for the Okinawa Chura-umi Aquarium.

I need to call Nippura for my next tank. Maybe I can make my whole house into an aquarium, with tunnels for halls and under water spaces for rooms. I guess I could change my name to Captn Nemo too.

Cheers

Yes, I think Osaka Aquarium was the first aquarium to keep a whale shark in captivity. IIRC they used to have two, but when I went they only had one, I don't know what happend to the other though.

That video is cool! I could grab a recliner and sit in front of that tank for a LONG time.
