my hammer had a baby!

Last year I bought tiny frag of hammer coral, so small you couldn't see the skeleton. It divided, which, until now, has been the only way I've seen LPS reproduce. Yesterday, I noticed a teeny-tiny polyp at the base of the skeleton of my hammer! It's about 1/4 the size of a pencil eraser, but it looks like a little hammer baby. I'll take pictures after lights come on.

Self preservation.

This is the only reason I still have my hammer coral. They sit there and grow extremly slow. Largely because they are shadowed by the main colony. If something happens, rock slide, fragging, etc. These smaller clones now have the light they need to thrive. They will then grow as fast as the main colony was.

ive seen some euphilia's actually drop little baby polyps into the water column to settle in other places and start new skeletons.
