MY GBTA split again....
Well, giving a good look to my GBTA(s) yesterday, I noticed that it looked a little "funny" again...yep, one has split again... now I have 3!!! I don't know if you remember or not, but back in about October or so, it split then into not 2... but 3 anemones, but I lost the tiniest one as it moved around.... but the other 2 have been living happily on the same rock together since then... NOW it has gone and split again....so there are 3 again... Why is it doing this? It is healthy as can be... great color ... always expanded everyday.I feed it (them) about every Sunday as many silversides as they will eat... It has not moved even 1 inch since going into the new tank. Only thing I can think of is that it had gotten so unbelievable HUGE(about 18-20 inches) in the crammed little 29 gallon, that now that it is free and has this huge space, it is just adjusting itself.
Pics later...have to run get Keaton from school...

I've read that feeding them often can induce splits. I never feed my RBTA, and it's never split, but that's not really a good correlation.

I hope not!
I've had mine for about a year, and it looks great, has been staying pretty small, has excellent bubbling on the tips, and stays put. I'm sure extra feeding would be nice, but it's not a requirement in my experience with good lighting. Mine just catches whatever I put in the tank. I do have an anemone crab to go with mine, which may help bring in food via the symbiotic relationship, but it's been doing well for quite some time.

I have had this one since late 2005... I have always fed it...it never split until I moved it into the new 180 gallon this past August.

Well I'm definitely not saying it's a bad idea, I've just don't think it's required. There are any number of reasons as to why it could split, and stress is one of them, so it's good that you're asking. Hopefully someone other than me will chime in!

i feed a little about every other day. just a little brine shrimp and a half piece of krill 2 times a week. never split but ive only had them for 3 months (i have 2)
you dont have to feed them, they will grow a lot faster if you do and some believe it helps them split.
