My frogspawn won't come out
I have had this frogspawn for about 4 months, it used to come out really far. Now it doesn't come out but maybe 1/2 inch tops. What do I do? It is in a 65 gallon tank, we have a bubble, gonipora, open brain polyps and pipeorgan, all are doing very well.
PLEASE HELP

assuming your water checks out fine, have you moved anything? any other coral or anemones close enough to it to sting it? you using trace elements ?

We don't have a calcium tester, but we have been giving the tank some calcium for the live rock. We are changing from a 65g tank to a 90g tank and have added a few more corals. The frogspawn has come out more since we added the charcoal filter. As I am a beginner to the reef tank I have a stupid question, Is the frogspawn compatibable with most other corals? I also have 2 brains, a bubble, a pipe organ, gonipora, sponge (which I recently introduced) several polyps, and a gobie and yellow tang. We haven't switched the corals to the 90g tank yet and am worried about the transfer, any suggestions on a safe method to move corals and live rock and sand from one tank to another?
I would appreciate feedback, I really don't want to loose any more coral.
Thanks

it could have been a chemical war. and the charcol is helping take it out..
if you acan use all the water and a little new that will help..
i am worried that you could run into a new tank problem...

I would invest in a Cal test kit and make sure you know your levels. Its a bit like flying in the dark. You really dont know if your OK. Water quailty is key to this hobby. How are all your other levels? Folks here can help, but we need as much info as possible. Have you changed any thing else? (salt mix, water ... etc)

We bought a calcium tester and it was a little high. We did get the calcium down, other water levels are o.k., not perfect. Frogspawn has come out alot more often. Thanks for your help.

I doubt it has anything to do with Calicum. I have amost exclusively LPS in my 120 and have 2 very large Frogs (both over 3 years old). My experience with LPS and their inflation rate has to do with 3 factors.
1st- Flow, if the flow has changed or is steady in one diretion it will stress them out.
2nd- Light. If you move them around often or have increased the light they may not open up as much. If you've increased lighting, they may only open a bit as they are getting plenty of light. If you reduce it, they may inflate more etc.
3rd- Water quality. My Frogs are a great indicatior of water quality. IMO Pom Pom Xenia and some LPS are a great way to judge Water quality in a tank by a quick view.
Also, some LPS are very agressive (e.g. Bubble corals) so if they are close to each other, they might fight (Chemically or with Sweeper tenticles etc.).
My Frogs are physically touching each other as are different types of Hammer corals (from different colonies). However, If a Frog touches a bubble or a bubble touches a torch in my tank the fighting begins! Give ample room and keep all LPS out of direct flow.
Good luck.

Ooops, I forgot to Mention. Charcol IMO is the key to success in a Reef tank. I use Black Diamond 24/7. I just use 1 cup worth in a filter bag and change it every 10 days or so.

as for lighting we now have a 48" lunar aqualight, its alot brighter than our old one. As for flow, we thought that they liked to be in direct flow. We are still setting up the 90 g tank, it has a sump pump tank underneath but we can't get it set up right, the tank is suppose to be about half full?? we fill the 90g tank to the top, water starts going through the slits fills up the sump tank more than 1/2, when we turn on pump water flow is on top of water, we then put more water in tank and it just goes back into sump tank and now is 3/4 full same water flow on top of water?? We read directions on the set up of the tubes, believe that is done right but something is wrong. Please give help, this is all new to us with the sump pump, our local fish store is of no help in setting it up. He says he doesn't recommend it.
Thanks again
PS Frogspawn comes in and out a little, will try to keep him out of direct flow and away from our bubble, is there anything else he should not be near??

IME, the LFSs in Iowa are practically worthless. At least within a 50 mile radius of the city where I live. I don't remember ever getting a single piece of good advice. In fact most of the info they have given me has been totally incorrect. That's why I spend at least a couple of hours a day here, reading new and old posts.
What is the wattage of your lights? I suspect it is a bit low. I believe the min. would be 3-5 watts per gallon.

2 65 watt True Actinic 03 Blue and 2 65 watt 10,000K daylight straight-pin compact flourescent lamps and 3 3/4 watt lunar LED lamps.
We got the frogspawn form aquacon.com out of Florida.

I tend to agree with Hank, but I basically do nothing. I do water changes (10 gallons once a week) on my 55. I use Kent A and B daily. And Strontium every 3rd day. This is what you get. My lights are (4) 65 watt PC's. You really don't need much for frogs.
The one on the sand bed below the big frog. I got on Saturday. FedEx from Vivid Aquariums.
