My first loss
Well last night I had my first loss. My lawn mower blenny died. I know I haven't seen him swimming around for a few days, and not eating. He had turned real pale, then last night I looked for him and he was really dark, and just laying around. This morning I found him dead in the sand at the back in the tank. I checked my water and did a water change. Before I did the water change I noticed I did have a raised amonia level. Later today I'll check it again. That is the first time I have had a raised amonia level. I don't know what caused it. Any ideas let me know.

REALLY sorry to hear about your LMB. Tends to happen. They do real well early on, then eat themselves into starvation. Once all the algae's gone...they starve. Happened to mine too!
Either way, very sorry to hear.
The ammonia's probably from the dead fish...shouldnt' hurt the tank too much.

Sorry for your loss.
Ive only had one lawnmower, still have him, he showed up as a hitchhiker and he is my favorite fish. Im curious skeety, you say that they typically starve.....is it odd that mine eats mysis???? In fact, if i dont feed him mysis at least once every couple of weeks he gets mad and starts knocking stuff over when im looking at the tank.

Mine wouldn't eat anything that I have tried to feed. These things were mysis, flakes, and norie (green). He was a cool fish and I really miss him.

I just lost my 6 year old LMB the other day. Beautiful fish...are you going to try again?
Sorry for your loss, as well.

I don't think so. No I don't feel guilty. I had him for a few months. He was the first fish I got and he was cool. Leaving all those lip marks on the glass.

I am trying to figure out what you meant by your post above. Have you felt guilty yourself when you have lost a fish, and are wondering if others sometimes feel the same way?

Odd's not the right word. Lucky is a better word! Fortunate, etc.
it's kind of like the scooters or mandarins...only not quite as bad.
If you can get them to eat other foods...then you're good. But in my experience...that's hit or miss. Mine was very algae oriented. Anything else he might nibble on, but not enough to keep him full. He wanted algae, and mainly algae.

I have had a LMB for 2 years and he's huge, eats only algae but I have a lot in the tank :> I have never seen him eat any other type of food - mysis, etc. - but would love to be able to feed him that way.
I'm so sorry for your loss. It's tough losing fish.
