My Dendro Stung me.!

while i was feeding my Dendronepthya in the container, i reached in to get it, i couldnt get a hold of the rock without touching the coral,(wich i have not done before) & i felt sharp points on its polyps & now my hand is vibrating (kind numbing like feeling) where it scratchd me (no cuts though). this happened to anyone else before ?

guess i'll find out if its deadly or not...lol

Go to the doc right away and get it checked out. I try to use gloves when holding any coral that can sting. you may have a toxin or you may have an allergic reaction. Please let us know what happens.

well im still alive.....................lol. the vibrating numbing like feeling went away slowly after SEVERAL hours. maybe just a skin reaction.

i appreaciate the concern guys, really, but going to a DR. in my area would be a waste of time..they wouldnt even be able to treat a snake bite around here.lol

Defintiely be careful with this stuff. Almost all the corals we keep survive based on the fact that they produce toxins (nematocysts). There have been more than a few cases of a hobbiest having this stuff get in their eyes/cuts/etc and ending up hospitalized or worse. Please be careful when handling corals, and do NOT take any "wierd" reaction you may have lightly.

Hope everything turns out okay with you, and it was just an "irritation" issue. I know every time I bump my hammer, while I feel nothing on my hand, I can INSTANTLY feel the muscles around my spine tighten up. I find the reaction wierd, and a bit distrubing. Therefor, I avoid him at all costs. hahaha

Everyone seems to have different reactions to different corals.
