Question

My crocea clam

Hi everyone
I bought a crocea clam last sat. I first had him in the sand and found out that the crocea clams like to be on the rocks. I decided to move him I found a nice rock with a dip in it. He fit in the dip nicely! I'm not sure if my clam knows he's suppose to like it on the rocks better because he keeps falling(jumping) off the rocks and onto the sand. I hate to keep moving him. What should I do? The only other place I could put him is all the way at the top. I have mh so I'm afraid if I put him up too high it might be too much for him.
Thanks
Patrick

I would acclimate him towards the top of the tank. I have one on top and he LOVES the MH's! If he falls, keep putting him back. He's probably just trying to set his foot in the LR.

I had one that fell every day for a couple weeks until I got him used to the top of the tank. Is there somewhere higher(mid tank) that you can put him temporarily until he gets used to the light?

Thanks Butch Yeah I can move the rock I had him in. I was thinking maybe he like the sand better? You don't think so? Is all this moving going to stress him out

Croceas like TONS of light and want to be on a rock. The sand is for Squamosas.

Do you think if I move him to the top it would be too much? If I put him on the rock he was first on I can't move him all the way up.

If he seems to do bad under the light you could put layers of screening over the area he is at and every few days remove a layer. What lighting did they have him under at the lfs? If it is similar to what you have I don't see why he would need to be light acclimated.

Thanks Jena so far so good he is open and hasn't tried to jump.I'm not sure what kind of lights they had him under I don't think it was mh. I could call and ask them. He was in the sand they had a 20 gallon full of clams.

The deeper dip was a good idea, it is not unheard of for these clams to jump off the rocks before they attach. It was also a good idea to put him in the deeper dip, they like to protect their foot from predators, the way they do that is get in a dip in the rock then burrow into the rock deeper. This ensures that no fish can get down there and eat his foot, he can close to protect his mantle. Plus he will love the light.

He might still jump, but if he is happy he won't jump too many times before he attaches.

HTH,
Whiskey
