My Closed Loop

Well I am going off of melev's closed loop... I can't run my pvc around anything because I don't have any room behind the tank, so I will have to run my PVC about 5" above the base of the tank, which means I will have to lower the pump/swcd some to accomplish this, I am wondering what the few extra inches might do on the flow, I am thinking not much on the left side but maybe some on the right... but on the right return (looking from behind the tank) the length of the line will be about 19" then going straight up 12" then a little dip down into the tank... I am hoping my flow won't be affected that much... anyone else want to pitch in or give me some other options..

I found a GPH vs pumping height on the www.marinedepot page when you do a search for MAG 7... on the left I think I should get about 550GPH, but on the right maybe around 500 GPH... I guess I am going to have to wait and see how good it does when i get it done

I am hoping the pump won't get to hot and heat up my water any.... but its magnetic driven so maybe it won't

I did the same setup and the scwd will put a ton of restriction on your pump. The heat went up on my tank 2 degrees and that was with a mag 9.5. The scwds are nice when they work, mine only lasted a month raised the heat on the tank and put a ton of restriction and I did not get the desired flow that I wanted. I would suggest something like the oceans motions. Don't get me wrong cls's are great but the scwd just has too many faults, when another option might be better.

I think alot of people using the mag 9.5 have problems I don't know why when the thing is supposed to handle 1400GPH... but melev told me that the SWCD reduces the flow by 20% so that puts me in the 500GPH range and I only have a 29G so I should be fine it should create some good shallow oceans currents for me... at least thats what I am hoping..

I need to know how long I should let some water flow through this to get out excess dirty/dust and also clean away maybe some of the left over PVC cleaner, but it looks like it just evaporates anyway..

I am doing the plumbing tonight and will have everything ready in the morning..

Bump..

Well I finished everything I guess I need to re-label the thread "Journal of wavemaker by Clownfishman" since no one is responding, maybe my threads are un-interesting.

Well anyway I finished all the plumbing today and will be getting the equipment in tomorrow.. everything looks good to go, I can't wait to try it out.. hopefully my corals and all will be healthier since I only have two powerheads for flow and this will be somewhat random flow..
