Mushroom Help!
Hi! Just got home from trading some stuff in and got this really cool red mushroom - but it came off the plug on the way home.
How can I attach it somewhere in the tank? What are the different ways?
For right now - I've set it on top of a rock - how long could it take to attach?
And don't worry - I know I owe pics -they're coming!

get a small tupperware container.....riddle it with holes......seriously riddle it......holes as big as possible but too small for the shroom to escape. put a bunch of rubble in it and put it in a area it will get some flow and just fgive it a few days to aweek. it will attach on its own and you can then glue or place what it attached to wherever you want

actually.....there are other ways to do it
you can wrap netting around it, you can stick it with toothpicks, and contrary to what many people will tellyou you can glue them as well.
Trust me from experience.......the best way is to let it attach on its own like i say in the tupperware container and then glue the rock where you want
if you want to glue it now for instant gratification........wipe all the slime off with a handful of q-tips......keep wiping until the slime stops, then stick it in a wad of glue on a piece of rubble and leave it on the counter for 30 minutes. no im not kidding, ive done it many times. Although after telling you that, the tupperware container and waiting a few days doesnt sound so bad now does it??

you will need to have a piece of rubble that the toothpicks will stick through or drill holes for them. you stick it throuohg the shroom in 1- 4 places depending on how big the shroom is
This method sucks. the shrooms will float up or seperate around the toothpicks or get away sometimes and it simply doesnt always work.
you really are best off letting it attach on its own without having to constantly meddle with it in the tupperware container. It takes way less effort overall

Ok - so I rubberbanded it to a piece of rubble rock. I hope this work! How long should I leave the rubberband on?
I was a little concerned that the tuperware thing wouldn't work because I only have 1 piece of rubble rock and thought the mushroom might just attach to the tuperware container instead?
Let me know if a rubberband is BAD - and I can go back home after work and try something new... Is a really pretty big red mushroom (about 2 inches across and 1 inch thick) so I really don't want to lose it!

rubberbank is OK. it should attach within 2 weeks, but there is no harm in waiting longer.

Ok - so the mushroom doesn't like the rubberband on it - I can tell...
I'm going to try the above - I only have 1 rubble piece (it's pretty large) but I have a small circular tupperware container that it and the shroom will fit in - so I riddle it with holes... top too? How does it get light?

The idea is that you use one with a clear top.
The rubber band thing can work, but it may slip out from under the rubberband. In other cases the rubber band may cut it in half,.. and if it does straight through the mouth then you get two
What about the toothpick method? Did you give up on that one?

FWIW, leathers are the only thing that make sense to rubberband really. everything else can be glued or put in one of these containers
as far as light...it doesnt need any more light than it will get in your container. One piece of large rubble isnt what you are looking for here. You want the floor of the container covered in it or as you said earlier...it will just attach to the plastic. Either take a hammer to your rock and crush it into smaller rubble, take a rock oout of your tank and tunr to rubble, or go to your lfs and get a rock to turn to rubble. You will find the more things you add to your tank that you will always need soem rubble around anyway. quarter sized pieces are fine...then once attached you glue where you want.
Snail shells will work in a pinch to put in the container, although they are not ideal as they are crap traps and really should be removed from the tank once dead
here is a old pic of a ricordia bucket im talking about.....and LOL...yes there are a few snail shells in there........haha. busted

Oh,.. Another thing you could do is use clear netting of some kind over the top of the container so it gets light.
The idea with this though is that you give it plenty of peices of rubble to attach to so where ever it settles it can attach to a small rock and then you glue that rock in your rockwork. The continer is so that it doesn't blow all over the tank,.. what your doing can work provided it stays on the rock and doesn't fall to the bottom of the container and attach there.
