MR2 Silencer clogged in one week!
okay. Just got this MR-2 about a week and a half ago (see this thread).
And noticed while production of skimmate WAS getting better for a while, the last few days...bubbles were going down.
Took a look at my silencer, and it looked like THIS:
so, I cleaned it out and the units back up and running fine now. Take a look at this crap that was clogging it:
So all is well...but...
while I KNEW I'd have to clean this thing from time to time...I didn't know I'd have to clean it every week!!!
So my question to all fellow MR-x owners...is this normal? Am I doing something wrong?

I extended mine so that the intake for the silencer isnt anywhere neer the water surfacew in the sump, mine was getting clogged from very small mist or bubble in the air. Now its better but I still have to change it once a week, it just doesnt get to where the bubbles are effected.

My skimmer sits above the sump, outide the stand and it was getting clogged frequently too. I don't even have a salt creep issue so I'm really surprised that it was clogging so much. I thought at first it was because the air in my house was dirty, but there is actual salt crusted on the cotton. What did I do about it? Took the silencer off and listen to the hiss.

Well, even if you change the location of air coming in for the skimmer, the only way to keep it from clogging is to feed it totally filtered air. I dont know about you but there is dust in my house, and my wife is a clean freek. I think it can be improved not easily prevented. Its cotton and there is alot of air going through there. Its gonna get dirty.

Hmm, maybe that's why my skimmate production has been off lately, better check mine out.

Chris, I check mine every other day, it doesnt take long. Even if its just a little dirty Ill usually change the cotton. Keeps it consistant.

I go to run some errads, and THEN everyone chimes in!
G~ ... thanks!
hopefully Andy will have some insight...but I doubt it.
Just based on the mechanics of it...I'd have to agree wtih motorslave. unless you have filtered air...not sure what you can do about this.
I eagerly await his response.

Theres really only one thing to do, besides my solution, remove the filter.... you have to make the filter bigger.
