moving a filled tank

I have a 56 All Glass corner tank, on the same manufacturer's wood cabinet stand. It is on a smooth wood floor. Is it ridiculous (disasterous!) to try to move it a couple of inches by just pushing the stand?

I guess the tank weighs 600lbs.

take most of the water out and pick the stand nd the aquarium up with a forklift. put the forks under the opening for the doors.

Forget just about anything else, athough I have seen folks move really sturdy stands. Good opportunity to crack one of the glass plates, especially if the stand flexes at all.

He's only talking about a couple inches. I believe I would try it but remove most of the water first and slide the stand over. It may scratch the floor though.

When I upgraded to a 120 I moved my old 55 over about 5 feet on carpet. I removed most of the water then tilted the tank and stand. My wife then slid caedboard under the stand. With the cardboard under the stand it slid pretty easily.

when I still had the 75 we moved it about 3 inches to install an overflow box and sump. We drained it about 75% of the way down and pulled on the bottom of the stand. It was still a pita I can't imagine trying to move it all the way full.

Do Not Try This At Home!!

ok there is my disclaimer. Nikki's new tank, 75g with a 20h under it. on a ridiculously (sp?) sturdy stand. there is absolutely no flex at all in the stand. it is heavily crossbraced. we got a set of those teflon slides. they are rated to something like 1000# each. there are four on the bottom of the stand. we have hardwood floors where it sits. i am able to move the entire tank setup and running several feet by sliding. i pull at the bottom of the stand to keep everything stable. it is not a fingertip push it is a good strong pull. it does slide smoothly once it has broken the coefficeint of sliding friction.

it is very risky!

If this is a first time move, remove as much water as possible before attempting it. Caution, the typical pressboard/vinyl laminate tank stand that are sold cheap by LFS will not tolerate any movement without risk of major breakdown
If you have something sturdy, custom built you might try the glides but I recommend having at least one extra person for each foot of tank minimum for the move. Go real slow and look for flex or twist, slow steady pressure spread over as wida an area as possible is the trick here
