Question

Moving?!?

At the end of the month I will be moving.... and after convincing my land lord that i do not let my fish out for walks ... Yes he did actually ask if the fist stayed in the tank or if i took them out..... (altho I am sure he was joking around... If not I think I should be worried hahaha )What is the best way to move my tanks... I have a 46gallon (with approx. 30lbs of rock (ithink) and then about a 1 1/2' sand bed) that has 3 fish then tons of crabs and a few snails.... my other tank is a 20 gallon with nothing in it but sand and 2 peices of live rock... Should I just rubber maid it.... It will also be time to do a MAJOR water change to... So wat do you think is the easiest way to do this???
Thanks

The way we moved all out tanks was drain them into rubbermaids about 1/2 full ( granted at the time we only had the 25g salt to worry about , all others were fresh water ) and took the water lvl in the tank down to about 1/4 of total. The tank was the last thing to leave and the first thing to get setup. Worked pretty good for us atleast.

Make a bunch of new water before you move over at the other place. Now is a good time to ditch the substrate and start over if you have any cyano red algae.

If you go to the food store they sell those 5g plastic water bottles, the kind you turn upside down in the office. There is a $7-10 dollar deposit on the empties. That's how I move my water. Rock and fish, I put in a styrofoam box I got at the LFS that they get live rock in. I put a lttle water for the fish put on the lid and scoot to where I'm going. I leave the sand and snails and crabs in the tank with a couple inches of water. This way you don't loose water and have to do a change right away. Let them settle down in the water they were in a few days and then do your change. If you can't get the styrofoam, they sell all kinds of stuff at Wall Mart, K-Mart. Like was posted above, last thing out of your old place first in the new place.
